Thomas Ridell
Sir Thomas Ridell (died 1652) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons at times between 1621 to 1629. He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War.
Ridell was the son of Sir Thomas Ridel of Gateshead and his wife Elizabeth Conyers daughter of Sir John Conyers. He became recorder of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and was of Fenham.〔(John Burke A genealogical and heraldic history of the commoners of Great Britain, Volume 3 )〕 In 1621, he was elected Member of Parliament for Newcastle. He was re-elected MP for Newcastle in 1625 and 1628, sitting until 1629 when King Charles decided to rule without parliament for eleven years.〔(Browne Willis ''Notitia parliamentaria, or, An history of the counties, cities, and boroughs in England and Wales: ... The whole extracted from mss. and printed evidences'' 1750 pp176-239 )〕
In the Civil War, Ridell espoused the royal cause with great zeal. He commanded a regiment of foot for the king and was governor of Tynemouth Castle. A reward of one thousand pounds was offered for his capture. He escaped from Berwick in a small fishing smack. His lordship of Tunstal was sold to satisfy composition.〔

Ridell died in exile at Antwerp in 1652.〔
Ridell married in 1629 Barbara Calverley widow of Ralph Calverley and daughter of Sir Alexander Davison of Blakiston.〔
